Why UK terrain changes the calculation
Most global trail shoe reviews are written on dry Alpine or Mediterranean trail, where grip and drainage barely matter next to cushioning and weight. British terrain flips that order. None of the UK's summits are especially high — but Atlantic weather keeps ground wet for most of the year, and peat, bog and wet grass behave nothing like dry rock or hardpacked trail. A shoe built for Chamonix gravel can be genuinely dangerous on a soaked Lake District fellside; the outsole simply doesn't clear mud fast enough to keep gripping.
